Symmetry

We did an exercise at work where we had to paint something with the symmetry tool in Painter and then add one or two asymmetrical elements. The fun part of this was trying to figure out how to paint symmetrical lighting.

  1. You must dream in the oddest characters. Symmetry in faces is one way to beat uncanny valley - and as to painting light; sounds metaphysical to me. Are you getting a little ahead of yourself in terms of eternal progression here? I am most intrigued with the asymmetrical element -

  3. Ah, Sam...painter. I'm still trying to wean myself from it, but it has so many little features that Photoshop just doesn't know how to do, or, more likely, I don't know how to access the feature in PS. For instance, in the Painter layers palette: the little "pick up underlying color" button. Perhaps the mixer brushes do this in PS? Haven't figured those little buggers out.

  4. Mark, for the smudge tool and the mixer brushes, there is an option along the top bar to "sample all layers." That should do the trick.
