Brush work

Here's the original drawing I did of the grumpy jedi before Jason Kim helped me fix the drawing.  Jason's suggestions made for a much better drawing, but I still think I slightly prefer the original character design.
In case you're curious about what brush I used, I just did a brush tutorial over on the art center blog.  This means that I will be as grumpy as this guy if I get any more people asking me what brushes I use.

  6. Thanks for the article on Painter brushes on the Art Center. Enjoyed it and learned a good few excellent things. I was beginning to think only people who cloned art from photographs used Painter going by the books on sale. (Gap in the market there).

I do like how it mimics reality but equates to a different experience. I stick paper on my tablet to create a bit of friction. If it's too slippery my drawing suffers.

I've just started looking on the Web for good tips on the software. I use Painter for a bit then drop it and then pick it up again sometimes a year or more later and so it goes on. Bought V.11 at Christmas.

    Thanks again.

  9. I'm excited to see that tutorial. Maybe next week, I can settle and really take it in. I have to say I like your original design better than the "helped" one. I like him because there's an edge to him that makes him seem less balloon like and just a little more real - which is good for a heavy character (meaning for one that has a sort of serious brooding presence).
