Lady Ghoulsmire

Another one for the Avalanche blog.
Don't you hate it when you know something is wrong with an image, but just can't quite figure out what you're screwing up? I don't know, maybe it's that old middle-of-the-month artist slump.

Here's a close-up, in case anyone's interested.

  3. Sam, tell me one thing. Are you ever happy with anything you do? This looks good. Be happy.

  4. Sarah, Mark: Thanks!

Lael: It's not that I don't LIKE anything I do. I'm just seldom completely satisfied. I need motivation to work hard and improve, and if I'm always just happy with my work I won't be stretching as hard or trying new things. But thank you.

  5. This is an awesome piece. I love the character and the texture and compositing you used for the background. I don't see anything wrong with this piece at all but I usually feel the same way about my work. I'm very critical and I think that's what keeps me going and forces me to work harder the next time. I'm usually never completely satisfied because I know I can always do better. really great work and a very inspiring blog. thanks for your comment on mine too!!I'm going to link you if that's okay.

  19. So beautiful, and I love her face and trailing ghostiness.

I'm completely ignorant about how one goes about doing something like this digitally... I'm going to investigate your site more. I stick to pen-pencil-paint... but this is just gorgeous.

  26. beautiful image! I can understand your feelings, but I think it's OK to see the room for improvements but at the same time to be reasonably satisfied with your creation. (Especially if you create such beautiful pieces)

question: are there any general tips with how to lay down brush strokes??

    ReplyDelete
  40. Tyler: I'm sure there are, but the only one I know is using the stroke direction to conform to the form of what you're painting.
