Neversink interior

I'm not going to post all the interior art because I don't want to spoil things for people reading the book.  But here's one of the full-page illustrations.  I'm not a great draftsman and it's been a while since I've shaded in pencil, so making these interior illustrations was a challenge.

  1. Thanks for posting these, Sam. I love seeing a couple of birds from the aviary larger! Thanks again for your amazing work on the book.

  2. I do judge a book by its cover - at least at first - and your artwork is what drew me to "Neversink." You made the setting look interesting and the characters like animals I wanted to know more about. And, the book was fantastic! I have a blog where I review kid's books and I'll send you a link when the review runs. My only complaint is that I wish there were more of your illustrations in the book.

  3. Okay, you. Just because you're so good, and so full of imagination, and so gleeful in throwing down all these lines that makes shapes doesn't mean you have to be SO EXPENSIVE.

    sigh.

  4. Thanks everyone for the comments!

Barry: Glad I could do it, thanks for the great book to illustrate!

Tanya: I wish I could have done more also, but budget and time are always pressing.

K: I don't charge more than any other experienced artist would. Maybe it's possible to find artists that will take less money, but they are usually too inexperienced to realize that they will be doing an enormous amount of work for the pittance they're getting.
